State Track & Field Meet Recap

  • Emma Kuntz capped off a terrific season by winning the 800 meters.  Not only did her time establish a new school record, but she sprinted to a new state record time of 2:12.69!
  • Ranked #1 all season long, the ladies 4X400 meters outran a tough field to earn the state title.  Their time of 3:57.29 is the 4th fastest time ever run in Kentucky...and of course a school record.   Every young lady performed like a champion - each running their fastest split of the season - Labreea Hall 59.11, Grace duPlessis 1:01.18, Alena Sapienza-Wright 59.99, and Emma Kuntz 57.01.
  • Alena Sapienza-Wright ran a brave and strong 1600 to finish as state runner-up in a school record time of 5:01.08.  Sandwiched between her 2nd place in the 1600 and her victory in the 4X400, Alena also managed to capture 5th in the 800 in 2:20.14.
  • Yared Nuguse battled to a surprising 3rd place finish in the boy's 1600 with a school record time of 4:16.11.
  • Darius Payne ran a patient 800 meter race just barely missing 2nd place with a personal record time of 1:57.20.
  • After overcoming an unfortunate baton passing blunder in the 4X200, the ladies rolled in the 4X100 recording their best time of the season.  They (Casey Kohlstruk, Julie Nwosu, Bria Steen, and Tyonne Howard) came into the meet ranked 17th, but finished 10th in 51.09.
  • Not to be outdone, the guys 4X100 (Bryce Cosby, Steven Gordon, Tim Comstock, and Antonio Hassell) was ranked 21st in the field, but raced strongly to finish 11th with their best time of the season as well with a 43.98 (not too far off the school record).
  • In addition to her phenomenal lead-off leg in the 4X400, Labreea Hall scored a personal record in the open 400 in 59.14.
  • Issac Domenech also posted a personal record in his final race as a Crimson running the 400 in 51.25.
  • Emma Dryden had a solid double on the track with a 2:29 in the 4X800 and setting a personal record in the 1600 with her time of 5:30.50.
  • In the field, Zoe Cardwell-Coperhefer and Julie Nwosu soared.  Zoe cleared 8-0 in the vault and Julie went 4-10 in the high jump.  Both gals barely missed scoring so their performances should give them confidence and motivation for next year!
